How to Create a New Notebook in OneNote – Step-by-Step Procedure

Open OneNote and start working with the default notebook
You don’t need to create a default notebook when you first open Microsoft OneNote; usage instructions are provided below.
Step 1>
Microsoft OneNote automatically produces a notebook for users upon launch; these can be customized by pressing the “Add section” button, as shown in the below image. When you open Microsoft OneNote for the first time, this option shows up.

You must enter a Title name for your section when you select the “Add section” option so that your Notebook section can identify it, as I have done in the below image.

Step 1>
When you open Microsoft OneNote, the Home tab will automatically appear in front of you. However, if you are on any other Microsoft tab, you may access the Home tab via the menu bar.

If you view the window layout in Microsoft OneNote on the Home tab, you will find three distinct sections: the first is for notebook and section data, the second is for notebook pages, and the last, larger section is for notes. Click on the following little arrow to open any notebook in the first notebook area.

As indicated in the below image, once you have opened the notebook in OneNote, you will see an option to “Add notebook” in this section at the bottom of the window. To start a new OneNote notebook, click on it.

You will be prompted to enter the name of your new notebook in the following area and set up a name for it when you click on this “Add notebook” button. Additionally, it will allow you to choose the account that you wish to use to create your notebook. After that, select the “Create notebook” button by clicking on it, as indicated below.

The option to start a new notebook in Microsoft OneNote is also available on the File tab, and it is explained below.
Step 1>
Once Microsoft OneNote is open, you must select the File tab from the OneNote menu bar, which is located in the window’s left corner.

Upon selecting the File tab, the following window will appear in front of you. It has a side panel with a “New” tab. By selecting this “New” tab, you can easily start a new notebook.

There are multiple ways to browse the file location when you select the “New” tab. As seen in the following image, click the “Browse” button.

You will be presented with a new, tiny window where you can browse and choose the file path for your new notebook. Once the file location has been configured, provide a fitting name for your new notebook in the “Notebook Name” field, as indicated below.

After completing the tasks listed above, simply click the “Create” button to open this window. Your brand-new notebook will open up in front of you and be made immediately.
Create a new notebook in the web version of OneNote
To create a new notebook in Microsoft OneNote when using the web version, go to the instructions below.
Step 1>
Open Microsoft OneNote from the Microsoft Office programs by first going to the Microsoft 365 website using any browser, as shown in the screenshot below.

All of your previous notebooks are displayed on the screen below as soon as you open the Microsoft OneNote web version in your browser. Click this “New” button to start a new notebook.
