How to use OneNote
In my opinion, a page is insufficient to sufficiently clarify how to use Microsoft OneNote. However, in this lesson, we will quickly go over each tab and option and then speak about how their functionality works.
To start OneNote
The easiest method to launch Microsoft OneNote is through the Start menu. Navigate to the Start menu of Windows and search for the OneNote application. When you find the desired result, click the highlighted icon or the “Open” button to launch Microsoft OneNote.
Upon initially opening Microsoft OneNote, you will see the pop-up window that follows. A login for the account is necessary. After inserting your Microsoft Office 365 account, click the Next button to provide your password and log in.
Making Notes in OneNote
If you are opening Microsoft OneNote for the first time, you will see the following slogan when you launch the program. To get started, just click on the tagline, which is indicated in the following image.
When you click on that slogan, your notebook will be created instantly, and you will be taken to the newly created page. Give the page’s title a name, then get to work.
The “Add pages” and “Add section” buttons, which let you quickly add pages to your notebook, are located at the right bottom of the OneNote window. Use these buttons to add or edit pages to your notebook.
Home Section
You can change the font style, size, undo, redo, and other settings by selecting the Font choices located in the first quarter of the Microsoft OneNote Home tab.
Similarly, the Bold, Italic, and Underline options—highlighted in the accompanying image—will appear after font style and font size in the other quadrant of the Home tab. Additionally, you’ll see highlighted text and additional options here.
You will find options for text orientation, bullets, and headings in the remaining portion of the Home tab, as indicated in the screenshot below. You can create headings, insert bullets, and arrange your text with these options.
File Section
As seen in the below image, we are going to look at Microsoft OneNote’s File tab, which is situated right next to the Home tab, after looking at the OneNote Home tab.
You will be sent to a new window with a side panel on the left side, as seen below, when you select the File tab from the menu bar. As you would expect, there are some options available here, including New, Open, Print, Share, and Export. These tabs have names that correspond to the types of actions you can carry out.
As I enter the Info tab, you will notice additional descriptive options on the other side of the video. Here, we will find basic notebook information such as file location and notebook settings, which allow us to modify the name and icon color, among other things.
You can view your account management in the Microsoft OneNote application and more settings related to the OneNote application by navigating to the Account and Settings options located at the left bottom of the File tab window.
Insert Section
After selecting the File tab in Microsoft OneNote, let’s proceed to the Insert tab. As the name of this tab suggests, you must use Microsoft OneNote’s Put tab to put anything into your notebook. Numerous possibilities are available here, such as inserting a table, file, photo, or online video, among others.
You can simply put complex terms in your note by using Microsoft OneNote’s insert tab, which also allows you to insert equations and symbols. A link to your file and an audio clip can also be inserted. You can effortlessly integrate and input Forms into OneNote by using the Forms tab, which is visible if you see the following tabs here.
Draw Section
You can find many types of brushes and pens in the drawing tools section of Microsoft OneNote’s drawing tab. OneNote also allows you to format the background of your notebooks and draw shapes.
History Section
The Microsoft OneNote menu bar has a “History” option that appears after the drawing tab. This tab allows you to view the history of your notebooks, page versions, and deleted notebooks. As seen below, you may also view the most recent revisions and author options.
Review Section
The OneNote Review menu offers many choices for reviewing your notebooks, including spelling checks, smart look checks, and accessibility checks. Additionally, you can encrypt your notebook via Microsoft OneNote’s Review tab.
View Section
We will only talk about the OneNote menu bar’s View tab in the final section. This page contains layout options that let you quickly customize the appearance of your Microsoft OneNote window and tabs.
In addition, you can adjust the paper size, and color of the page, and zoom in and out. You can add more lines to your notebook designs to generate correct paragraph and grid lines by using the rule lines option found in the view tab.
Additional options
The following screenshot shows the various options that are shown if you glance in the upper right corner of Microsoft OneNote. Below, I’ll demonstrate their practical use for you.
You can get details about the OneNote account you are now using by clicking on this profile button. This profile symbol allows you to change your account if you so choose. With this option, you can also add extra accounts to your OneNote.
Here, in addition to the profile symbol, is a small arrow icon that lets you show and conceal instructions and tabs on your OneNote window. This option allows you to reveal and conceal ribbons, tabs, and instructions with a single click.
Additionally, you will find a Share option here that allows you to share your OneNote file with others in a variety of methods, as seen in the following drop-down menu.
The most important point for you to understand is that you can use the following search bar to find any file in OneNote. The result of my search for a notepad is shown below.
